Ruthenium-catalyzed direct C3 alkylation of indoles with α,β-unsaturated ketones.

In this paper, a simple and highly efficient ruthenium-catalyzed direct C3 alkylation of indoles with various α,β-unsaturated ketones without chelation assistance has been developed. This novel C-H activation methodology exhibits a broad substrate scope such as different substituted indoles, pyrroles, and other azoles. Further synthetic applications of the alkylation products can lead to more a...

Ruthenium-catalyzed oxidative ortho-benzoxylation of acetanilides with aromatic acids.

Substituted acetanilides reacted with aromatic acids in the presence of [{RuCl2(p-cymene)}2], AgSbF6 and (NH4)2S2O8 in ClCH2CH2Cl at 100 °C for 24 h yielding ortho-benzoxylated acetanilides in good to excellent yields in a highly regioselective manner via C-H bond activation.

Ruthenium-catalyzed annulation of alkynes with amides via formyl translocation.

The first example of Ru-catalyzed intramolecular annulation of alkynes with amides via formyl translocation has been developed, which provides an efficient approach for the synthesis of 1H-indole-3-carbaldehydes.

Iodoarene-catalyzed cyclizations of unsaturated amides.

The cyclization of N-alkenylamides catalyzed by iodoarenes under oxidative conditions is presented. Five-, six-, and seven-membered rings with a range of substitutions can be prepared by this route. Preliminary data from the use of chiral iodoarenes as precatalysts show that enantiocontrol is feasible.

Selective alkylation of (hetero)aromatic amines with alcohols catalyzed by a ruthenium pincer complex.

A readily available pincer ruthenium(II) complex catalyzes the selective monoalkylation of (hetero)aromatic amines with a wide range of primary alcohols (including pyridine-, furan-, and thiophene-substituted alcohols) with high efficiency when used in low catalyst loadings (1 mol %). Tertiary amine formation via polyalkylation does not occur, making this ruthenium system an excellent catalyst ...
